Timothy Owen Blake Payne
December 30, 1943 - August 31, 2025
Tim passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025 at Sechelt Hospital, surrounded by family.
Tim spent his childhood summers at the family cabin in Halfmoon Bay, where he developed a fondness for the Sunshine Coast. In 1981, he and Donna made Gibsons their full-time home, where he remained for the rest of his life.
For decades, Tim owned and operated his tool rental, Seabird Rentals. If you ever rented from him, you knew his rules were firm and his care for the tools was evident, sometimes questioning if he even wanted to rent them out at all. Every invoice was handwritten, ruler in hand. He continued working there into his late seventies.
Outside of work, Tim liked to stay busy. He split the wood for the fences around their acreage and took pride in maintaining his property. He enjoyed bird watching, particularly his ravens and even built birdhouses. His fall road trips to California and across the US became an annual tradition he looked forward to. He also enjoyed tackling the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper, a steady part of his routine. Tim served for many years as a volunteer with the Gibsons Fire Department, though not one for small talk, he loved to tell stories of his time there.
He was predeceased by his father at a young age, a loss that stayed with him through life. We hope they are now reunited and making up for lost time.
Tim is survived by his wife, Donna, his children David, Kimberley and Amanda (Greg) and his grandchildren Brittani, Malcolm (Sarah) and Emily. He will also be deeply missed by his sister Susan (Jim), along with many nieces and nephews.
Tim will be remembered in his own way, for his independence and the uncompromising manner in which he lived his life.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Sechelt Hospital for their care and support.
A service will be held at a later date.
