Dear family, friends, and all who have gathered here today, today we say goodbye to a remarkable woman: Doris Anthonysz. Born in Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands, she grew up in a successful entrepreneurial family where courage, resilience, and ambition were part of daily life. As the eldest of five children, she carried responsibility early on, but she also carried a spirit of adventure that would shape her entire life. As a child, she lived through the Second World War — an experience that left its mark, but also forged her strength. Doris had the beauty of a film star and the elegance of someone people believed might be of noble descent. She had a presence that lingered, a grace that stayed with you. Adventure called her, and she answered. In 1963, together with her great love, Glen Anthonysz, she immigrated to Canada to build a new life in British Columbia. It wasn’t always easy — not for her, and at times not for her children. But the path she chose ultimately shaped the lives you lead today. That, too, is her legacy. Doris carried secrets, some heavy, some quiet. Yet those who knew her also knew her warmth, her humor, and the many moments of joy she brought into the world. There were beautiful memories — moments of laughter, love, and connection. Those memories remain, and they carry her forward through all of you. Now she is on her final journey home. She once said: “When I die, I will finally be home. Forever in the light, free from pain and sorrow.” Today, we let her go with love and peace. Farewell, dear mother. You remain with us always — in our hearts, in our stories, in the light.
